Tree limbs, shrubs, holes in the ground and trees cavities are among some of the natural places for birds to nest. But when these locations are not available, having bird house can be a good nesting place.

A plain bird house will be the best choice for attracting birds. Avoid adding a perch beneath the entrance, this will only give predators a place attack. Also choose the proper size entrance hole for the variety of bird you are trying to attract.

Research and learn about the birds in your area before buying or building a bird houses. Be aware of the birds needs, different variety of birds will require a certain size and style of bird house.

By knowing what type of birds are in your area you will be able to buy or build the right bird house that will meet their needs. Using cedar lumber will be a great choice of wood to build a bird house. This type of wood doesn’t need painting or staining.

The size, style and size of the entrance hole will be determined by the type of bird you are trying to attract. Different birds will have different bird house needs. Find out the needs of the birds you are trying to attract by doing some research.

Having a perch might seem like a good idea, but it is not necessary. In fact a perch will give predators a place to wait for the birds to come out.

Choose the location carefully. You don’t want a place with to much human activity, but you will still want a location were you can observe and enjoy the bird activity. Also keep in mind how weather and predators will be affected by the location you choose. The most common places is hanging them on trees or mounting them to post. The ideal height is usually three to ten feet.

You will also want to provide water and food for the birds. Giving birds food, especially in the winter when food is hard to come by, is a must for attracting birds to your property. Birds will also need water for drinking and bathing, placing a shallow container with water will be ideal.

Learn about the different kinds of birds in your area. By doing some research you will be able to build the proper bird house and provide them with the right type of food. There are many websites that have lots of information on birds and plans for building bird houses.

A good poultry house can protect the chickens from hazardous elements such as the weather, predators, and injury.

Here’s how to do it:

Protection from Weather

A dry, draft-free house is needed in poultry. This can be done by building a relatively draft-free poultry house with windows and doors which can be opened for ventilation when necessary. Build the chicken house on high, well-drained areas. Through this poultry plan, prolonged dampness and water saturation of the floor inside the coop and in the runs outside can be prevented. Let the front of the coop, the windows, and the outside run face to the south as well. This allows the sun to consistently warm and dry the coop. To keep the humidity level in the coop to a minimum, allow an adequate level of space per bird too.

Protection from Predators

The best way to protect the chickens from predators is to keep the poultry house totally confined with fence and covered runs. When planning a poultry house, consider laying a concrete floor, and secure the wall with one or two concrete blocks. This prevents predators from digging under the walls and the floors. When the coop is opened, windows and doors must be securely covered with heavy-gauge mesh wire or screening.

With outside runs, bury the wire into the ground along the pen border with 12 inches depth and toe the fence outward about 6 inches. Through this way, it will help stop most predators from digging under the fence. By toeing the fence outward and burying it, the predator will dig down right into more fencing.

To discourage predators, some people run electric fencing around the outside of their pens 4 inches off the ground and about one foot from the main fence. If your outside runs are not predator-proof, you must lock up your poultry before dark. A 3-4 feet grid over the pen made of boiling twine will give the best protection from any flying predators.

Protection from Injury

Plan your poultry house to prevent any possible injury to your chickens. Take out any loose or ragged wire, nails, or other sharp-edged objects from the coop. Eliminate all the areas other than perches, where the chickens could perch more than 4 feet above the floor. Get rid of any perching areas such as window sills, nest box tops, or electric cords whenever possible. These measures could prevent any injury to you or your chickens and may prevent damage to the house, as well.

In planning your poultry house, make sure, you don’t neglect the details on the best way to protect your chickens because it is a very important matter in the business of raising chickens.

Birding enthusiasts find all kinds of ways to attract birds to their gardens and backyards. They often use bird feeders of various sizes and shapes, filled with a variety of food and other things to attract many different species of birds.

A bird bath is another common fixture, providing a place for passing birds to perch and drink in peace.

One of the best ways of attracting birds is to provide them with a place to nest – they will keep returning instead of just stopping on their way past. You can buy pre-made bird houses or kits that you assemble yourself. If you’re handy you can even build your own from scratch.

If you’re thinking of using a bird house kit the first thing to consider is how it will be used. Is it going to be a permanent fixture in your yard or do you want it to be more portable? And what types of birds are you hoping to attract with it?

Some kits are made for single birds, others for more than one. Some are hung while others can be mounted on a fence or a post of some sort. Taking the time to plan ahead will make your birding experience much more satisfying.

If you’re buying a ready-to-assemble kit, the wood will all be pre-measured and cut and all the other hardware will also be included. The entrance holes will be pre-cut and the mounting holes will be prepared for you. These kits are generally made from cedar as it is a good weather-resistant wood.

You may find the surfaces are rough or possibly primed, ready for a finish coat of paint. Painting the bird house is often half the fun. You can go simple, with a color that attracts the type of birds you want or you can go with a fancier paint job, making it a nice addition to your garden.

If you are a bird watcher, then it should be easy for you to recognize a Northern Cardinal bird as it perches somewhere in your garden. The cardinal got its name from the Catholic Church Cardinals because its feathers are nearly the same shade as the cardinal’s robe. This bird is very popular in the United States. St. Louis Cardinals, one of major league baseball teams, uses the bird as its mascot. Furthermore, the cardinal has been named as the state bird in seven states. Since this bird is very popular, it is not surprising to find out that many people are interested to place a cardinal bird house in their garden.

Finding the perfect location to place your cardinal bird house

If you decide to place a cardinal bird house in your garden, there are several factors that you need to consider. First, you need to find a spot where cardinals will feel comfortable to nest it. In this case, you should know the characteristics of this bird. The cardinals are forest dwelling birds. They prefer a spot with some trees around. Moreover, the area should also have dense vegetation so the birds can search for food and hide from predators. A spot with some trees and brambly underbrush should be suitable for the cardinals.

The second thing to remember is that you should never place a cardinal bird house near your kitchen window, or any window in this case. Your activities inside the house generally will not disturb these birds. However, you should know that the male cardinals are aggressive during breeding season. Therefore, when a male cardinal sees its reflection in the window, it will think that there is another male cardinal. It will immediately launch an attack and the battle can last for a considerable period of time. In the end, the bird will be exhausted or injured. Therefore, you should content yourself to see the activities of the cardinal from afar. A pair of binoculars should serve your purpose.

How to attract cardinal birds

If your area has some trees and bushes that grow close together, it is likely that you have seen some cardinals flying around. Even if you have a suitable area, it does not mean that you do not need to do anything to attract the birds. Nesting cardinals need a water supply and thus you can provide a bird bath nearby to encourage the cardinals to stay around. Filling the bird feeder with seeds is a must if you want to attract the birds.

This is not to say that commercially-available units are not equipped to handle your dogs.
A dog kennel must be designed in a way that it follows the principles of convenience for you and comfort for your pets. These considerations will guide you through choosing the right construction materials and the layout and design of the kennels, and designing the ventilation and drainage systems.

With convenience in cleaning and maintaining the kennel in mind, you will be able to design the unit that will allow for ease in carrying out sanitation procedures. For example, you will choose steel wires instead of wood or plastic material for flooring. Steel is easier to clean and disinfect. It also does not splinter, causing injury to your pet.

Concrete may also be used for multi-tiered kennels. It is good, strong material that is also easy to clean. The only disadvantage is that insects and other parasites may live in the cracks that will form in time.

You can also customize the kennel to slope in an angle that allows better drainage. This way, you can just conveniently hose down dirt from the kennel compartments and not have to wipe or mop them clean. You can eliminate odor or keep it at minimum with more frequent disinfection.

With a customized kennel, you can choose any location that you want. Location is important in maintaining a kennel. Your dogs must not be in direct sight contact with people or moving objects to prevent them from barking and making noise that will disturb your neighbors.
