Is there a way to get rid of mosquito larvae in running water?

Our fountain is a barn stone with a hole drilled through the middle. So the water goes up the middle then runs down the rock into an underground reservoir. We have larvae that has attached itself all over the stone. I know it is mosquito larvae because we took a couple off to see what they turned into. Is there anyway to kill these things. My dogs drink off of it and the birds land on it to drink and take baths. I saw they have mosquito dunks but with the water always running I don’t think they would work. Any ideas?
There is no pond. No place to put fish. No standing water. The water just runs down the stone. Kinda like a pondless waterfall. I’m not sure the dunks will work because I think you need still water for those. The larvae feeds on the dunks and that is what kills them I believe.

  1. Jim T says:

    dunks work in my fountain

Maybe you could put a few small fish in it, like sticklebacks. You don’t have to feed them they will eat the larvae.

  3. Bandett says:

a small amount of bleach in the water.

  4. Mandarin says:

Salt the water. It’s then not toxic for the dog and birds, they simply won’t drink it but mosqitoes won’t be able to live in salt water.
