birds dont take baths sheesh learn a litlle bit about the animal before you buy one, they clean them selves

Maybe he just doesn’t like that quantity of water…have you tried just spraying him with a spray bottle?

Really depends on the kind of bird. Canaries, cockatiels, connures and parrots love to bathe. Parakeets aren’t always like that. Try dribbling some warm water in the bathroom or kitchen sink and see if the bird wants to play under it.

Ah, take a bit of your own advice, blindguardian. It all depends on what kind of bird we’re talking about here. I used to breed canaries and most of them just absolutely loved taking a bath in their bird bathes and so did most of my parakeets. My cockatiel never liked bathing in standing water, but would occasionally run under a running faucet. Some birds, wild and domesticated, prefer dust baths. And have you ever seen birds take a bath in someones bird bath in the yard??? Yes, some birds DO like baths, but some don’t. Since I don’t know what species we’re talking about here, it’s a hard one to answer.

yes, the problem with birds is they shrink when they get wet.. especially when its cold.. so try to make the bird hot before giving it a bath.. or try to bath the bird together with your other pets.. for example your pu-ssy. that way the bird will be more willing to take its bath.. and it wont shrink for sure. but be careful, dont let your pu_ssy eat the bird coz the bird will fight back for sure. and if that happens, there will no bath to take place. all they’ll do is eat each other till the bird gives up..

Set a dinner size plate of shallow water in it, or shower together, my birds love it,also a spritz bottle of water is good too

Most of these answers are nonsense, I hope you understand that.

First of all, most birds are a little fearful of new things. I don’t know what kind of bird you have, but it will take some time for him to understand that it’s not dangerous and can even be fun. Put the birdbath by his cage for a few days before trying to get him to bathe in it, so he can get used to it.

Second, it may be that he doesn’t like to bathe in a bath but in other ways. Each bird seems to have its own preference for bathing. One of my birds likes to bathe in the dribble from the kitchen sink faucet, one likes to bathe in the shower with me, and one likes to splash around in a shallow dish of water. The last one likes to roll around in wet lettuce or greens! Some birds like to bathe in their water bowls, and some like to be misted with a plant mister filled with water. Your first job will be to find out HOW your bird likes to bathe, and then if the bird bath is the right solution, he’ll just have to get used to it first.

Last thing, don’t ever add anything to the water or spray anything BUT water on them. Soap is not necessary! Whatever you spray on their feathers, they will eventually ingest as they preen their feathers after the bath.

    Hope this helps!

    Exactly what Janet said.

My birds hate bathing, but they love to roll around wet lettuce leaves.

The guy at the top knows nothing about birds, alot of these answers are useless. Most birds love to bathe. I put a big bowl of water in my sun conures he gets so happy. He stands at the edge of it and dives and flaps his wings, he soaks him self. I also have many cockatiels & doves that love to bathe. Also try spraying your bird with a new water bottle, all of my birds love to be sprayed, especially during the summer. They put on quite a show!!! My Conure and cockatiels love to take showers with me too, they always look so relaxed!
