Can you put a baby bird in a bird bath?

My bird is covered in food and I’ve tried cleaning it with a damp washcloth but it isn’t doing any good.
I need to know if it can be put in the birdbath and I also need to know for how long I need to let it stay in water.
I don’t know.
If its not TOO young you can if there isn’t enough water to hurt it. I dont see why not ;]
I wouldn’t yet, use a damp wash cloth. Most vets or pet stores are happy to give this type of info without too much hassle. Call them and see what they say or do a quick web search. The more I think about it — as long as the water is lukewarm I don’t see the harm in just slight submersion, like 1/2 to 1 inch. I guess gentle is the key. Good luck.
How young is the bird?
If the bird is old enough to jump out of the water, and has feathers then yes by all means put a bowl of luke warm water (nothing added to it) in its cage and hope that he gets in and has a bath.
But no u cant keep a bird in water for long, as it will catch a cold, even if the water is warm.
Is it hand rearing formula u need to get off? I Normally find that i get cotton wool, soak it with warm water, and hold it over the mess for about 2 minutes, re-dip in water and hold back over the mess on the bird, then after its softened up a bit i wipe the area it normally comes off, I Have to do this with mine ever few days as they are messy, and dont find it a problem!
Just dont force it in water or keep it in there too long, and remember after u’ve finished keep it in a warm room away from any drafts! Or it’ll catch a cold!
Well…it depends. A baby bird shouldn’t be in a bird bath alone. The mother bird should watch over it, or the water should not be deep at all. Try going to a pet store and buy something for it, but make sure it’s for baby birds and the kind you have.
Depends on what breed, what size, and how young…and how stressed he’s going to be if you try it and he doesn’t like it.
Best bet is misting with lukewarm water. Don’t soak the bird, and make sure you have him in a warm area, you don’t want him chilled.
I think you must mean that he’s covered in formula on his neck and chest (adult birds aren’t messy, hand fed babies are). In either case, just soak the feathers (or down) with a very wet, warm wash cloth. Hold it there until the dried formula (or food)has softened, then just press it between your fingers. It should mash up and come off. Keep wetting the wash cloth as necessary – and misting is fine, but don’t wet anymore of the bird’s body as necessary.
Because ive seen all of these complicated answers, im keeping mine simple.
Ive had the came problem, all you can do is turn the water on in a sink, low stream, and put some in your hand then on the bird. Once you are done put it in a small towel, because the bird getting a cold could kill it. Good luck.
