Can you all help me? A Mother’s Day gift gone wrong. Help?

Ok here is what happened. I bought my mom a bird bath that has 2 figurines in the center and it looks as though they are holding an umbrella. Well it has a hose inside the figurines so the water is pumped up and on the top of the umbrella to make it look like they are in the rain. It doesn’t say on the box any thing about all this, just shows a picture of the bird bath complete with the figurines and umbrella. When I went to put it all together, there was no pump to be found. I called the store about it and even took it back to them to show them the paper that came with it. They said that no pump was suppose to come with it. But this is what the paper says:(a)The pump is installed inside the fountain cover. (b)Pull out the adaptor and electrical cord from the fountain cover.
Now wouldn’t this mean that it should be there with the bird bath, as well as the rest of the stuff?
It came from a Family Dollar Store. The one that I bought it at only had 2 of them in the first place. The other one they had was broke and no pump. I showed them the paper and they still said that no pump comes with them. I called a store in the next town and they said the same thing plus the fact that NO instructions came in the box. They all have offered me my money back, but I want the pump that they say don’t come with it. Why would the instructions say that if the pump is not included?
Oops, I just realized I made a mistake. It is not an umbrella that they are holding, it is a tree they are standing by. Sorry. But there is no pump with it. It is called Birdfeeder but it really is a bird bath. It is by outdoor accents. There is no phone numbers any where on the box. So who do I call about this?

    try contacting the company.

  2. JennyM says:

if you call the company they might send you a new one or a new pump or refund your money.

If it’s defective (comes without a pump when the paper clearly says it does) I’m sure you can take it back for your money back.

  4. Mi$$y says:

Your best bet is to call the company. The should a have number on it for you to call or try another store, if there’s another one near by. Good luck

There should be a list of parts included. If this list is not on the box or outer wrapping, then it should be in the direction packet.
If a pump & adaptor are on that list, then you should talk to the store Manager & ask him/her to furnish those parts to you, rather than you having to transport the entire piece to back to the store. If they will not give you these parts, then you should prompty pack it all up & return it to the store & DEMAND a full refund for MISSING PARTS…this will get the attention of upper management & that stores Manager will get called out for not assisting you in a better manner. Be sure to send in a letter of complaint to their main office (if they have one) & if they are good business people, they should send you some sort of compensation for your inconvenience in the form of a gift certificate or free gift. Sadly, I wouldn’t hold my breath for either in this day & age.
I have noticed that many items are missing vital parts these days & the wording of the instructions leaves far too much to the buyers imagination, rather than being specific, as we Americans expect them to be. By law, they are required to be in plain English, but many overseas distributors have poor translations. I’m sure the Mother will be pleased with whatever you give her…it’s the thought that counts, right? Yeah, I feel ya…what can you do, short of sliting your wrists to prove your love? Nothing! So just try to get it right the second time around ASAP!

. Sometimes it’s just best to cut your loses. These minor irritations aren’t worth pursuing. Take it back or throw it away.
The world is not a perfect place. Maybe next week.

WOW! Yes they tricked you or cheated you………….but, a very simple fix, go to Home Depot and buy a pump, cheap enough fix. Pumps are what? 2 or 3 dollars?

Otherwise take it back to them and get a refund, and yell like crazy at the crooked manager for selling his crap!

I would buy a pump at keep raising hell with the Dollar Store……….they know what they did, AND I GUESS ALL OF AMERICA KNOWS NOW!

Fix it if you can. Get your money back if you can’t and plan on buying your Mother’s Day gift somewhere else in the future. Dollar stores are not known for their high quality items. You have 364 days to buy or make something nice for your mother next year. This would not be worth all the fuss you are making over it and it would be upsetting to me. I would rather not have the present.

well if it came from china, then anything is possible.

I was just thinking that since water is getting scarce, if you searched it out you can find something on the net that you could circulate that water but by weight instead of electricity. I recall seeing that done; seems to me that it requires some plastic tubing and some height. Why not ask that question in the “home improvement” section of Q&A.

Or, if you’re frustrated then return the gift for a refund.

Maybe it is a fancy enema contraption? No, Seriously, I would never buy something with moving parts from Family Dollar. You have to be carefull, all the canned food I looked at was from China.
Just take it back.Go to Home Depot

  12. oldman says:

Go to a place that sells aquarium supplies and by an aquarium pump.

  13. typical not me says:

Reading part (a) The pump is installed inside the fountain cover.
I would not assume that this means the pump is included. It means that this is where the pump is installed.
Pumps are cheap. You can probably find one at Lowes, Home Depot.
The Dollar Store has some good stuff but it has some bad stuff too. This might end up o.k. if you can find a pump to fit inside the thing. You might be better off taking it back and starting all over again. Sometimes the hassle is just not worth it.
